About Cepham
Who We Are and What We Do
Cepham was originally established in 1978 at the start of India’s science and technology boom. The company quickly became a well-known research innovator and leader in the medical, nutrition, and health and wellness sectors.
Cepham’s first venture into food ingredients involved the production of commercially used dairy protein and other milk-derived ingredients. Then, in the mid-1990s, as DSHEA was established in the United States and Europe grew increasingly interested in natural modalities, Cepham saw the opportunity to further diversify its portfolio. The company’s existing manufacturing facilities provided all the core infrastructure required to expand and build an Ayurvedic ingredient research and production plant.
No other company had tried this yet.
Drawing from the company’s medical science background, Cepham’s pioneering research teams were incredibly successful. At first, Cepham made its Ayurvedic ingredients available regionally, doubting it would find serious demand elsewhere. The company was stunned when European and U.S. demand exploded in the early 2000s.
In 2005, driven by a strong background in Ayurveda and curiosity as a biochemist, current Cepham President Dr. Anand Swaroop set a new goal for Cepham: discover the actives in common Ayurvedic plants and develop more convenient and concentrated extracts.
Since then, Cepham has continued to develop new extraction and fermentation technologies to enhance established Ayurvedic ingredients. The company supports those ingredients with its own lab studies and human clinical research. Globally, Cepham is among the few ingredient suppliers that can research, run clinical studies, scale up, manufacture, stock, and distribute.
Our Mission and Values
Cepham produces evidence-based nutraceuticals that create economic opportunity for its botanical growers and harvesters. Current product offerings and new research efforts are targeting:
Cepham’s efforts are grounded in clinically-supported claims, sustainability, supply chain transparency, and fair trade partnerships that in turn present unique, viable business opportunities for finished product companies in the dietary supplement, functional food and nutritional beverage industries.
Personal Ayurvedic Understanding Meets Relentless Scientific Curiosity
Cepham President Dr. Anand Swaroop had personal experience with Ayurvedic traditions, coming from a family that relied primarily on Ayurvedic powders for their own health goals. Combining that background with his curiosity as a biochemist, Dr. Swaroop set a new goal for Cepham: discover the actives in common Ayurvedic plants and develop more convenient and concentrated extracts.
No other company had tried this yet.

Cepham’s Ayurvedic Research Protocol Applied to Global Projects
Research initiatives now include natural health ingredients from sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and South America. Cepham’s over-arching goal is to produce evidence-based nutraceuticals in a fashion that creates economic opportunity for the people who grow and harvest the health-promoting botanicals.
While enhancing current ingredients, the Company constantly looks for the next new ingredient that will meet pressing consumer needs. Current product development initiatives are focused on athletic nutrition, metabolic wellness, and cognitive health. The Company adds two new research-backed product offerings each year and is also known for its production of unique delivery systems, including controlled-release beadlets.
In 2004, Cepham launched its U.S. operations. Today, along with over 200,000 square feet of research and manufacturing facilities in India and closely monitored partnerships with ingredient growers and harvesters worldwide, we also have a complete quality assurance facility with pilot plant and QC lab in New Jersey. We’re enjoying our new partnerships with innovative U.S. brand manufacturers who share our beliefs in evidence-based nutrition and cultivating international economic opportunities.
